Walk-ins and drop-offs welcome

Hey this is a great and affordable place to get an $18 oil change. I was fortunate enough to pick up a deal, but learned that the price I paid was their normal price. Not quite sure if that was a deal for me, either way they are affordable especially in this economy. Call before you stop by or you can drop the vehicle off.

So, I just moved to LA and the first crooks I have come across in this city are the mechanics. I honestly don't know who to trust in this city with my car. Since I was having brake issues, I called around for the cheapest quote on new brake pads. They quoted me the cheapest, so I stopped in. The guy (super nice) lifted my car and took the time to show me that my brake pads were actually fine. He advised I could keep driving on them for several thousand more miles. I decided to milk his knowledge (and honesty) on another bumpy issue i was having with my car. He took the car for a test drive and told me it was definitely unsafe for a further driving. He lifted me car again and discovered it was a actually a minor issue of having a bad uneven tire. He didn't have the tire, but advised me to take care of it right away. He even gave me a price range to stay in so I wouldn't get ripped off. . I have never met a mechanic that took so much time with me on my car and had nothing to gain. I got my tire replaced down the street, but I'm definitely returning here! I was very grateful for the tips.

Totally surprised by the occasional hate for these guys. I went in a year or so ago because they had really good Yelp reviews (then) and my Honda Civic was making a clunking noise on the left front tire. They explained to me what it was, actually showed it to me on the car (I think it was my control arm) and gave me a fair quote, something like $700 to replace both front control arms - they told me the other was really worn because it was taking all of the car's strain and I believe them because, like I said, they showed me and then let me decide what I wanted to do. They said it would take a few hours, so I walked to ArcLight to see a movie and when I came back it was all done, and it actually came in at less than their quote. Maybe not the cheapest, but I appreciated the honesty and how quick they were. Also, why do people complain and rate poorly on a high quote? I don't get it, if you haven't paid for it yet, who cares - I'd rather get good service personally (and I was a broke film intern/slave when I went to them).

I'm sorry but seriously this place is a no GO! My Honda CR-V was acting very strange and a friend had recommended going to Funk Brothers. First they told me that my callic converter was in horrible condition and I would not be able to pass a smog test. I needed a new one and that would cost in the thousands. Then, since my car was breaking down a lot, they kept it all day to try and find what was wrong. Couldn't figure it out.... then they explained that my vehicle was not going to last too much longer and it's only worth $500. They let me know they'd be happy to purchase it. I wasn't stupid so I didn't sell my car, but I did get an estimate. Honda place told me they'd give me $4,500 for it. YEAH. Also, went to another awesome shop and the only problem that needed fixing was spark plugs and my car could go another 100,000 miles. Really felt like I was just being played here, and I don't know if it's because I was a girl who didn't know cars or because they honestly don't know what they're saying but pretty disappointing. All in all, I paid $500 and it hasn't broken down for months. It's back in amazing condition. P.S Just got my smog check in, I'm two thumbs up, passed with flying colors (no callic converter necessary).

Ask for Peter...have been doing business with him since early '80's...always fair, honest, and upfront...and trustworthy...a rarity in this type of business!

The owner, Hovig, is such a great person to deal with, always friendly and always trying to help out. I've been taking my truck there for a while now and have always felt satisfied with their work. They are very fast, efficient and flexible, always honest. The don't charge an arm and a leg for small things either, in fact, he's given a lot of free services. He also helped when I got into a major accident to find a body shop. Always good servicing and professional skills, always honest and always on time.

I would like to share some suggestions with you fabulous readers and inquirers... First off, do not take advice from a reviewer who cannot even make a coherent sentence, let alone use proper grammar = untrustworthy. Secondly, please shy away from reviews full of unnecessary foul language because that is obviously to the extent of their vocabulary. Thirdly, I would undoubtedly trust Funk Bros. with my life. I go here rather frequently with a steady rotation of three cars needing service every once and awhile. Every time I go I'm immediately taken care of and in a very timely manner. If something major is wrong with your car they'll tell you upfront, explain the problems and quote you on the spot. The best part? They won't do a thing until you say so. And, if you say no, they'll make sure to note the problem on you account - so when you do decide to fix it, no time is wasted on reassessing the issue. Yeah. These guys are great. As long as I live in LA I refuse to go anywhere else.

They rip you off good! Overpriced, unfriendly and incompetent. They "fixed" my radiator and now it's ruined. There are plenty of more helpful and less expensive mechanics around. Don't go there...

I was experiencing a loud noise in the rear of my car that I'd been ignoring for quite sometime as I didn't have a mechanic (you know *that* mechanic that is your go to guy for your car - yeah I didn't have one of those). My dad and brother are both mechanic, but don't live anywhere near here otherwise they would my go to guys. Being related to mechanics has it's advantages, like having them tell me what was wrong with my car before even heading to the shop, and knowing the urgency of the problem. And this one was a couldn't wait any longer problem (the rear driver wheel barrings were shot and I mean SHOT. They were done. Not knowing any mechanics in the area, I reached out to Facebook for recommendations and my friends steered me to Yelp and Funk Brothers. I was hesitant. I'd read all the reviews for them and other mechanics in the area and everyone either loved them or hated them. I finally picked Funk Brothers because they were closer to work (nice quick walk to work after dropping of the car). I told them what my dad and brother suspected. They checked out the car and called me to let me know that it was indeed the rear wheel barrings and gave me an honest and upfront quote, detailing the cost of each part, why it was necessary and the cost of labor. I appreciated how upfront they were each step of the way. What really has Funk Brothers stand out for me is not how upfront they were, the price I got, or the quality of the repairs (heck with anything you get done, only time will tell the quality of anything, right?). It was the little touches. I have wheel locks on my car (for those who don't know, it's basically just a special bolt that you need a special key for so people can't steal your tires. Well I keep my key in a very specific place in my car. When I picked up my car the first thing I did was look for the lock. It was in the exact same place I always have it. This is a small little thing, but for me this is HUGE. One of my personal pet peeves is when people use something of mine and put it away in a different place (I get sooo mad when people put the pots on the pans shelf - yes I'm that person). The fact that they did this shows me that they respect their customers and their belongs. I will for sure be going to Funk Brothers for all my car needs in the future and I highly recommend them.

I didn't know that I had to earn the right to car service, but I've been informed of as such by Hovig. He wonders why anyone who thinks he's rude and condescending would dare inquire about his attitude, when she is clearly and respectfully requesting that he explain the charges in detail so that she knows what kind of work is warranted. I have never been spoken to like this in my life. I'm being refused service, and he's told me I must now remove my car from his lot. HAPPILY. Some additional thoughts: Gosh things have really spiraled, Funk Brothers. As evidenced by your daily commenting... After approving your quote -- twice -- I wished to understand the charges, not to refute them. Nobody was taking advantage of you... Unless you consider questions to be offensive. But thanks for hoping that I find someone I like to fix my car. I did, it was a quality job for half the price, and he was a gentleman. Maybe you could look into that.
